Sorry for the lack of updates, but we have been very busy trying to keep up with Lillie during the holiday season! She is crawling faster and faster these days and is well on her way to taking her first steps......needless to say, Nate and I are saying our prayers! She said her first word "Papa" to Nate's dad and quickly followed that up with "ball" at Grandma Gina's! She has definitely been in the holiday spirit and is very excited to have her first visit from Santa(the most she can be at 9 months)! We wish everyone a safe and happy holiday!

Lillie has been keeping us very busy, hence the lack of updates, but here we go.....Lillie is now 5 months and has come a long way! She is rolling, babbling, semi-sitting, trying solids, and sleeping in her own room (but not through the night)! She is very social and definitely knows what she wants aka is already developing some attitude! Now for the updates in pictures and videos!!!

Lillie is doing great and has proven to be quite the eater! By 3 weeks she had packed on a whole 2 lbs weighing in at a healthy 8 lbs 12 oz. She has been adjusting well, but has experienced a couple bumps....she has reflux, which at times can be pretty upsetting and annoying! Her eyes are looking to be blue and her hair is currently strawberry blonde. So far the best buy has been an eight dollar exercise ball, where Nate and myself can be found at all hours of the day. Here is what I have been doing for the last 3 weeks (please excuse my appearance, it had been a long day)....

Lillie has finally arrived after a long 10 months. She arrived at 6:05 pm on Friday, March 19. She weighed in at 7 lbs and was a perfect 20 inches long (boy was I glad she wasn't much bigger!) She is absolutely perfect - Nate and I couldn't be more proud!

First, I would like to give a shout out to Claire on her 13th birthday!!! Next, I thought I would play catch up today with the rainy weather and all, so here we go.....

Projects - I have been spending time decorating and getting ready for Lillie and that includes baby projects...

I have made a few burp clothes

and I have also made a baby blanket (a pretty messy one)

As for decorating, we have started on the baby's room and it is coming along!

Lastly, I made some nice fabric artwork to spruce up the guest room

I still have a couple of things I am working on, including growing a human...

Hope everyone had an amazing New Year's Eve....I know I did! My cousin through a 30th b-day/80's New Year's Eve party and it was totally radical! We threw together our best 80's attire and rang in the new year!!!

Nate wore his original mail order "Warrior" jacket and I did the best preggo jazzercise I could....

So, I have been trying to get everything organized and that includes the guest room. I decided that in order to save money I would recover these hideous pillows rather than buying new ones. Here is what I had to work with....

I chose to go with bright cheery colors and this is how they turned out....

Overall, I am very pleased with how they turned out and can't wait to have visitors!!

It has been a fun and busy holiday season. We had our traditional family get together and the babies had a ball opening gifts this year!

We also a girl's night out at Flemming's and the infamous Tumbleweeds.....

It was a great evening, but I was a little sad that I could only have one glass of wine. :( But, I only have a few more months of no wine.

Pop Up German Pancakes!

I got this recipe off another blog, Make and Takes, and it is easy and delicious!

You'll need:

1 cup milk
1 cup flour
6 eggs
1/4 cup melted butter
dash salt

Directions:

You simply combine ingredients with a whisk, grease a cupcake pan, and fill about half way with batter. Throw them into the oven at about 400 degrees and bake for 15 minutes.......

I serve them with a squirt of lemon and powdered sugar!

STRANGE ZOO PARKING ATTENDANT MAKES OFF WITH MILLIONS!

From The London Times:

A Well-Planned Retirement

Outside England 's Bristol Zoo there is a parking lot for 150 cars and 8 buses. For 25 years, its parking fees were managed by a very pleasant attendant. The fees were £1 for cars ($1..40), £5 for busses (about $7).

Then, one day, after 25 solid years of never missing a day of work, he just didn't show up; so the Zoo Management called the City Council and asked it to send them another parking agent.

The Council did some research and replied that the parking lot was the Zoo's own responsibility.

The Zoo advised the Council that the attendant was a City employee.

The City Council responded that the lot attendant had never been on the City payroll.

Meanwhile, sitting in his villa somewhere on the coast of Spain (or some such scenario), is a man who'd apparently had a ticket machine installed completely on his own; and then had simply begun to show up every day, commencing to collect and keep the parking fees, estimated at about $560 per day -- for 25 years.

Assuming 7 days a week, this amounts to just over $7 million dollars!

And no one even knows his name!

Wow....who knew there were so many variations of color in the world. At this point I almost wish I was color blind. We are having to pick paint for each room and it is exhausting, no wonder people just leave everything white! So far we have a couple colors decided on.....

Well.....summer is coming to an end and in no time (3 days) I will be back at work. :( Overall, this summer was pretty uneventful, except for a PREGNANCY and NEW HOUSE!!!! As of today I am 10 weeks pregnant and constantly feel like dog poop! I am hoping the morning sickness begins to wind down, but I won't hold my breath! The little bean is due March 18 and Nate and I are ecstatic! This is not much of a first photo, but we got to see the heartbeat!

As for our new home, we have yet to close escrow and we are still waiting to make it through underwriting unscathed! It is a 4 bd/ 3 bath townhome in Brea. We wanted to find something close to either set of grandparents and we couldn't exactly afford the beach. Anyways, we are really excited and I will try and post pictures soon.

I wish my dogs could do this!

Help me honor my aunt Linda!

Dear Friends,

My aunt, Linda Corwin, was a vivacious, talented, loving, beautiful 55 yr old. She loved everything about her life, being a grandma, her friends and family, her job as a vocal instructor. She was seemingly healthy aside from an ache on her side when she was diagnosed with Stage 4 Pancreatic Cancer in November 08. She succumbed to the disease just four months later. She didn't want to die and fought so hard to live but Pancreatic Cancer brutally stole her life from her. Its a vicious cancer. Only 4% of those diagnosed live a year after the diagnosis (most die within 6 months). Only 1% last longer than 5 years. Those odds are unacceptable and we must demand better treatments and screening. That's where you come in:

I will be running in the 11th Annual LA Cancer Challenge 5K/10K on Sunday, October 26, 2008 at the VA in West LA. I will not just be running for myself but for the Hirshberg Foundation for Pancreatic Research (Federal Tax ID #954640311).

Running my first 5K/10K is not my only goal. I intend to raise at least $500 to help support the doctors and scientists at the Hirshberg Pancreatic Cancer Center in their mission to find a cure for pancreatic cancer. Currently, pancreatic cancer is the fourth-ranked cause of cancer related death in the US amongst both men and women. Despite this, the federal government invests less money in pancreatic cancer than in any other leading cancer.

Running in this race and raising $500 is very important to me. I hope you will consider making a donation to sponsor me as I help support the Hirshberg Foundation's research efforts. The way I see it, if 10 friends donate $50 my fundraising is complete. Also, 20 donating $25 will also help me reach my goal. Any amount you can give will be greatly appreciated. Covina performer takes final bow

COVINA - Linda Corwin, a musical performer known for her infectious smile, selflessness and singing talent, lost her battle with pancreatic cancer on Sunday. She was 55.

The West Covina native and longtime Covina-area artist spent most of her life performing, teaching and singing on stages in the San Gabriel Valley and around Southern California.

"We called her our little songbird," said Retha Champion, owner of the Covina Center for the Performing Arts. "She was always singing, even when things were bad."

Friends said that Corwin, a Chino Hills resident, considered the Covina Playhouse, which later became the Center for the Performing Arts, her second home.

At the playhouse and performing arts center, she appeared on stage numerous times, including her most recent performance as Mazeppa in "Gypsy."

Corwin, who was described as friends as having an outgoing and magnetic personality, passed on her passion and enthusiasm for theater to those who came to watch her on stage, as well as to those eager to learn.

It was at the center that she also had the Linda Corwin Vocal Studio, which she opened nearly 15 years ago and has since helped mentor hundreds of students, some of who have performed on Broadway.

She also helped cultivate talents that many students never realized they had before stepping foot into her studio.

Among them was the son of Covina Mayor Walt Allen.

"She convinced my son to participate in a number of musicals," Allen said. "I was shocked. Before Linda, my son had no rhythm, no voice. But she took my son and provided him with skills that he would have never had."

Corwin was also quick to volunteer her talents for local fundraisers and community events, such as the Covina Concert Band and the Covina Christmas Parade.

"She was the type of person that just wanted to give and give and give," Champion said.

Reminiscing on the past Hallmark holidays, the one that stood out the most didn't involve any romantic restaurants or even flowers........it was made up of 80's clothes, a one gold Acura Legend, and my best friend.

We dressed up, hopped in the "legend,"blasted some Pat Benetar, and proceeded to drive through every fast food joint in a five mile radius ordering only waters! We sure knew how to do it back then!

Yes, once again I have chosen to wait until the last minute to study for the remaining CSET tests! Nate's mom stumbled upon this face lotion called Earth Essentials that I ended up loving! I found out that it was a whole skin line and I have loved everything that I've tried so far. It's natural, paraben free, and works great. Right now I am using the A-D-E Creamy Cleanser, Aloe Toner, Azulene Eye Cream, and Almond Moisturizer. We all had a fabulous and memorable weekend up in Los Olivos for Kelly's Bachelorette. It was a weekend filled with great wine, great food, and great company. Now I didn't mention a great hotel for a reason, Cheryl and I had the pleasure of staying Days Inn made famous from the wonderful film Sideways. If words could only explain our experience. With our two-night stay we received the following, all complimentary: a creepy/sweaty desk guy, an electrical shortage, and the world's smallest cereal bowl!

The day we started off with a picnic and some wine tasting and then for dinner we made are way to a wonderful Italian restaurant. This Italian place just happened to be right next to Maverick's Saloon and what a saloon it was. It came complete with a live country band, real cowboys, and a creepy old perv named Arnold. We all got asked to dance and we all tryed our best to keep up with the fancy, country footwork.

I just haven't been able to kick this crafty mood, so I decided to attempt another sewing project. I found a pretty easy pattern for an apron on Better Homes & Gardens and thought I would give it a try. I went down to JoAnn's and picked out some pretty fabrics and got to work. Once I started, I realized I didn't really know HOW to follow a pattern, which makes for a pretty interesting sewing project.......

After awhile, I started to get the hang of it and was on my way to making a fabulous apron. Below is the first real picture of progress.

I took my time and had friends to keep me company along the way. (Huckleberry was a little less enthusiastic about my project.)

A few hours later, I had a beautiful apron that I will probably never where in the kitchen because it's just too pretty.
The pocket looks crooked in this picture, but it isn't when you actually have the apron on. I enjoyed my project and am already on to the next.

For those of you that don't know, I took my first CSET Exam in world history back in March. Well, the results are in and (drum roll please)...............I PASSED!!! I had studied for about two days total due to finals we had going on at the same time and the night before the test I ran through a practice test ending with a horrible score of 4 out of 13 correct!! Going into the test... lets just say I was not very confident. The test was horrible. Anything that I had kinda breezed over when studying was on that stinkin' test. Leaving the test room I was sure that I had failed and told everyone that I did horrible, but then I got an email today saying that I had passed! I couldn't believe it and I almost still don't believe it! I really think that a blind man graded mine because after that dreadful test I was absolutely sure that I had failed. Now that I have passed world history I am on to the next tests, American History and economics. Wish me luck!

I guess lately I have been in a Martha Stewart crafty mood and was looking for something to work on. Well, I thought I'd try my hand at sewing. I borrowed my gram's machine and got started. I wanted to start with something very easy, so I thought I would recover some throw pillows. I found some material for a dollar a yard at JoAnn's and got started.

I was able to finish in about an hour and I think they turned out great! I haven't sewed them closed yet, but I will try and do it soon. Next, I think I will try to make an apron or something!

A Day with Uncle Dan & Gram

Today I spent the day with Gram and Uncle Dan. We had lunch at Cameron's Seafood in Pasadena and it was wonderful. I would definitely recommend it to anyone who loves seafood! After, we stopped by Uncle Dan's to pick up some fruit and flowers. He has a wonderful house that he and Uncle Gary basically remodeled from the floor up. I am mainly posting these picks for mom, but I am sure anyone who loves home decor will appreciate them.

Gram and I made off with amazing avocados and beautiful lilacs courtesy of Uncle Dan. For those of you wondering how he picked these avocados, he used an avocado picker! Who knew!?

We had a great time and I am definitely looking forward to doing it again some time soon!

Introducing Andrew Scott Gardner!

An hour after I wrote my last post I received the call that Kendee's water broke! Like I mentioned before, I had been waiting and waiting for this call to finally come! It was extremely exciting! I threw something on and headed to Matt and Kendee's to wait out the majority of the labor with Anna and Kristi. We hung out, talked, and had a couple of glasses of wine while waiting for the call that she was getting close. At around 4 am she was at about 4 cm., so we figured we try and get a couple of hours of sleep. At about 6:30 we got ready and made it to the hospital around 8 am. We stopped in and visited with Matt and Kendee until she was ready to deliver at about 9 am. Fifty-five minutes later Andrew Scott Gardner was born weighing in at a healthy 7 lbs. 13 ozs. and 20 inches long. He is absolutely perfect! He looks exactly like his daddy and he has a beautiful full head of hair! Mommy and daddy are doing great and are thrilled with their new baby boy! I took several pictures.

Baby Season!

I'm only three posts in and I already feel like I am stuck on a topic, babies. Oh well! On Sunday, Nate and I attended Avi and Marjan's baby shower(Nate's friends from USC). They are both persian, which made the shower very interesting. There was a lot of people, a lot of food, and a lot of dancing! We had so much fun and we walked away with a beautiful centerpiece and I won a tea set for best decorated bib!

In other baby news, Kendee is due any minute and everyone can't wait! Andrew Scott needs to get here already! I have been on call for the last week and every time my phone rings I am hoping it is her telling me she is in labor, but that has yet to happen! For her sake, I am hoping it comes sooner rather than later! That stork needs to hurry up!

Right now I actually have stuff to blog about, how great! First, I think I will start with SHAY DAY! Last Thursday I watched my cousin Shay and we had so much fun! My mom and I took her to Chuck E. Cheese and she went on a couple of rides (they no longer have the ball pits) and ran around.......

For the most part she had a great time with one exception. We put her on one ride and she didn't seem too impressed......

She just sat there and stared like that the whole time. I think the circular motion put her in a trance or something. Anyways, we took her home and I got the other great pics below.

Overall, we had a fun day and I am looking forward to my next Shay Day!
